This is not my Facebook profile. It’s not my Twitter profile either. I was talking to a complete stranger, telling them they weren’t sincere. Why would I say something like that to a person? Was I trying to hurt them.

Here it is now, the message, in my inbox. I don’t even have to log in to read it:

I am a clumsy fool and I have distressed you by my thoughtless words.
